Alpine Summer
"Alpine Summer” is a hand painted linocut inspired by the flowers that proliferate in alpine areas during the Tasmanian Summer. The vegetation of Tasmanian alpine areas are a current fascination. I love the extraordinary range of textures, shapes and colours that seem almost to be intentionally harmoniously ‘planted’. I enjoy playing with the compositional aspects of the placement of the plants, and the rich colouring, translating these into a linocut that seeks to convey the unique sense of place. In this piece, Richea Scoparia with its spiky leaves and vibrant red flowers is set against the deep shadows of the alpine rocks.
This linocut measures approximately 30cm (12") wide by 40cm (18") high, not including signature. The paper is larger still, as pictured. Each print is numbered and signed with this being a small edition of 25. I print using oil-based printing ink on Stonehenge printmakers paper. Each linocut is then individually hand painted with watercolour.
This unframed linocut will be shipped securely in a mailing cylinder.
