Telopea Truncata
Telopea Truncata is the botanical name for one of my favourite flowers, the Tasmanian Waratah. Tassie Waratahs grow wild on the slopes of kunanyi/Mt Wellington where I live in Southern Tasmania. They flower in late spring and through summer near the peak, and their intense red colour seems to glow on the bush. The flower is actually a collection of individual strangely shaped flowers, arranged like a crown. I’ve tried to capture their structure in this linocut, just as the ‘flowers’ are starting to open.
I hand carve the lino, and print with oil based printing ink onto Stonehenge paper. Colour is added with watercolour, each piece individually hand painted.
The image size measures 30cm wide (12") x 2o cm high (approx 8 1/4") with the paper larger as shown. Each artwork is signed and numbered with the edition limited to 10. This piece is shipped flat, wrapped in cello and mounted on foam core.
