Summit 7, Summer Shadows
‘Summit 7, Summer Shadows’ continues my Summit Series of kunanyi/Mt Wellington inspired linocuts which began in the winter of 2020. In Summit 7, I have explored the deep shadows caused by the summer sun as it lowers in the sky. The alpine plants are flowering and the rocks are glowing with the last warm rays of the evening. I enjoyed tracing the flow of growth in the plants with different textures, as well as playing with the intense colours of the deep shadows and sun-saturated highlights.
This linocut measures approximately 30cm (12") wide by 40cm (18") high, not including signature. The paper is larger still, as pictured. Each print is numbered and signed with this being a small edition of 25. I print using oil-based relief printing ink on Stonehenge paper. Each linocut is then individually hand painted with watercolour.
